Student-produced responses on SAT Math
A student-produced response is an SAT Math question that asks you to calculate a numerical answer and type it into a response field. You decide what value satisfies the problem using the information in the prompt. If a problem has several correct solutions and asks for one of them, you enter a single value that meets the prompt.

Student-produced response is the name of an SAT Math question format in which you enter a numerical answer. You work out the value yourself, so it helps to read the last line once before solving and again before typing. The answer field is for the result the question requests.
For example, suppose an equation has a positive solution and a negative solution. If the prompt asks for a possible solution, either value will do, and you enter just one. If it asks for the positive solution, only that value answers the question. When you miss a question on a Bluebook practice test, check whether the mistake came from the algebra or from overlooking a condition in the prompt.

Frequently asked questions
What goes in the response field?
Enter the numerical answer requested by the question. Keep your scratch work separate from the value you submit.
What if an equation has several solutions?
Read what the question asks for. If it asks for one possible solution, enter one valid value. If it asks for the positive solution, that condition determines your answer.
How can I practice the format?
Solve a student-produced response question in Bluebook. Before typing, check what the number represents and whether it meets the conditions in the question.
