GMAT Focus Edition and the current GMAT

GMAT Focus Edition is the name used to introduce the current GMAT exam for graduate business school admissions. It assesses quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning and the interpretation of data. An older guide that includes an essay section describes the previous edition, even if the cover simply says GMAT.

GMAT Focus Edition is the name given to the current version of the GMAT exam when it was introduced. Its sections are Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights. You choose the order in which to take them.

Imagine borrowing a roommate’s GMAT prep book while you are working on your MBA application. The contents list an essay and a standalone Integrated Reasoning section. Those headings identify the earlier format. Before using that book for a mock exam, compare its contents with the official comparison of the editions. A practice test for the current format should give you a separate Data Insights section.
