IELTS Academic and General Training are versions of IELTS with different Reading and Writing tests. Academic is intended for purposes such as degree study. General Training includes language used at work and in everyday situations. The Listening and Speaking tests are the same in both versions.
Consider a student preparing for an English-medium degree who downloads a practice task about writing to a landlord. It is a useful General Training letter exercise, but an Academic Writing task might instead ask the student to describe a chart. Check the version named in your offer before choosing a practice paper. Both versions report an IELTS band score.
