TestDaF levels and what each result shows

A TestDaF level indicates how a candidate performed in a particular German language skill in an academic setting. The certificate reports reading, listening, writing and speaking separately. When a degree programme specifies a level in each skill, compare each requirement with the corresponding result on the certificate.

Last updated:

A TestDaF level describes performance in one of the language skills assessed for university study in German. The TestDaF Institute places TDN 3, TDN 4 and TDN 5 within the B2 to C1 range of the CEFR. Reading, listening, writing and speaking each have their own entry on the certificate.

Say a German engineering programme asks for a particular level in every skill. Line up each result with that requirement. If your reading meets the target and your listening falls short, try taking notes from a German lecture excerpt. Compare your notes with the transcript to see which steps in the explanation you missed.
