Russia EGE: primary points and test scores
Russia's Unified State Examination uses subject-specific marking and reporting. Answers and assessed written work produce primary points, which are converted to the reported test score for relevant subjects. Basic-level mathematics is reported using the school grade system instead. Read subject and examination type carefully before comparing scores with admissions requirements.

Russia’s Unified State Examination, EGE, supplies results for different school subjects. The EGE exam overview explains the papers and how to prepare for them. Reading the outcome requires identifying the subject, whether the examination follows the basic or profile route where applicable, and the type of result shown by the official assessment system.
Primary points come from subject criteria
The Federal Institute for Pedagogical Measurements (FIPI) publishes demonstration papers, specifications and scoring criteria for each EGE subject. A task can award points under a set of marking rules, and extended responses may be evaluated against several criteria. The sum of these task-level assessments is the primary score.
Primary points help learners understand how their examination work was assessed, especially if a difficult task has multiple requirements. A response might receive partial credit for reasoning even when another part needs revision. In practice materials, use the official subject specifications to locate the marking rules that apply to each answer.
Why the reported test result differs
The official state examination scoring explanation distinguishes primary marks from the reported result on a 100-point test scale for the subjects assessed that way. Converting the primary result requires the relevant official subject scale. A raw correct-answer percentage is a different kind of measure from this converted result, especially for assessments containing extended answers.
The same official state examination portal explains that basic-level mathematics uses a five-grade school marking system rather than the usual reported test-score scale. When comparing mathematics results, identify which examination route was actually taken. Mixing a basic mathematics school grade with profile mathematics converted scores would produce a misleading comparison.
Admission requirements belong to each programme
An EGE result may be used in university admissions when a programme requires the corresponding subjects. The programme’s published instructions govern which scores count, what additional conditions apply and how candidates are selected. Keep the official reported result and the programme’s required subjects in the same application record, with primary scores used mainly to help you understand the scoring details.
Historical tables are useful for seeing how an examination has changed, but compare the same subject and scoring system. A previous paper’s primary maximum can differ from the current one because tasks and marking criteria are revised. The official subject specification is the reference for the examination being interpreted.
For targeted study, categorise errors according to task interpretation, subject knowledge, calculation or written explanation. Choose the repeated error that costs the most practice points, work on it and test the skill in a new task.
