Russia OGE score conversion and school grades
Russia's Basic State Examination reports primary scores and converts them to school grades under subject-specific recommendations. Maximum primary marks and grade boundaries vary by subject, and some subjects include extra criteria for higher grades. A Russian-language example makes the distinction clear. Read the current subject table and its notes before interpreting practice results.

Russia’s Basic State Examination, OGE, uses subject-specific scoring rules. The OGE examination overview explains the learning areas and tasks. Reading the result begins with the primary points earned under the subject’s marking criteria. Those points are then matched to the relevant recommended school grade, with any additional conditions in the subject’s official table taken into account.
Start with the appropriate subject conversion table
The Federal Institute for Pedagogical Measurements (FIPI) publishes the official subject-specific recommendations for converting primary results to the school grading system. Different subjects can use different maximum primary scores, grade ranges and special criteria. Keep the exact subject and current recommendations beside the mark rather than borrowing a table from another discipline.
A candidate may improve within a grade range while the reported school grade remains unchanged. The underlying primary score can still show progress across similar practice papers. That makes task-level marking valuable for reviewing which areas deserve further study.
The Russian-language scoring example
In the FIPI 2026 OGE Russian-language recommendations, the maximum primary result is 37. A mark from 0–14 corresponds to grade 2, while 15–25 corresponds to grade 3. These ranges are specific to the Russian-language paper and the stated examination guidelines.
For higher grades, the same official FIPI table adds a literacy condition. A primary result of 26–32 produces grade 4 if the candidate has at least 6 points for literacy; where that literacy minimum is lower, the reported grade is 3. A primary result of 33–37 produces grade 5 if the literacy component reaches 9 points; otherwise the grade is 4. Checking both the overall range and the literacy subscore is essential.
This example illustrates why a total alone can be insufficient to interpret a subject grade. The same principle applies whenever the marking guidelines include minimum performance on a specified part of the examination. The details must come from the actual subject table rather than from a simplified generic conversion.
Use primary points to guide revision
For preparation, write down where primary marks were lost: understanding the task, applying subject knowledge or developing a written explanation. Choose tasks with similar criteria to see whether the same difficulty repeats. Review the currently published marking rules before comparing the marks from different papers.
When using results for school records, make sure that the official examination score and school grade are distinguished from self-marked practice work. Keep your result under the correct subject label, especially if the school uses it alongside other assessments.
