EUNACOM Scores: Chilean Medical Exam Passing Rules

Two kinds of result on the same professional pathway

EUNACOM evaluates medical knowledge and clinical performance for candidates in Chile. The theoretical component has a numerical result, while the practical component is governed by a separate outcome. The EUNACOM exam guide introduces these assessments. What the theoretical scaled score measures

The EUNACOM scoring explanation describes a conversion to a 0–100 scale after statistical assessment of the test items and the responses. Under the current examination regulation, the theoretical mark on that scale is rounded to 2 decimal places. The scoring method uses an item response model, including the Rasch approach, and reviews items that behave unusually. The resulting scaled mark comes from the official scoring procedure, rather than being simply the proportion of marked answers that were correct.

For study purposes, answer counts help you see where you made errors. For formal decisions, the scaled figure on the official report governs. This matters when comparing two versions of the examination: their question difficulty can vary, and the statistical conversion is intended to preserve score interpretation across forms.

Passing the theory component

The official cutoff explanation gives a minimum of 51 points on the final theoretical scale. This value comes from a defined professional knowledge standard that is maintained using statistical techniques. Candidates should therefore compare their certified score against the threshold on the official scale. A percentage obtained from a private answer key is a study indicator rather than the published certification outcome.

Clinical performance and complete certification

The EUNACOM regulation describes the practical assessment as a separate pass or fail determination. It comprises 4 stages: internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics/gynaecology and surgery. All stages must be passed and valid alongside an approved theoretical section before the examination is fully passed. Check that the examining organisation has recorded every required result.

How long approved sections remain valid

Under the current EUNACOM regulation, a pass in the theoretical section remains valid for 2 years from the examination date. For candidates continuing the practical section, individual practical stages already passed remain valid for 2 years from their respective records. The candidate must complete or validate the practical section while the theoretical pass remains valid. Once the whole examination is approved, the EUNACOM approval and certificate have indefinite validity. Check the transitional provisions if your process began under earlier rules.
