TUS Medical Specialty Scores and Placement in Türkiye
Türkiye's Medical Specialization Examination, TUS, has different reported result types for different candidate groups and specialties. Raw answers become standardised test scores before the specified basic and clinical medical components are weighted. Applicants should identify their own eligibility route, read the appropriate score type and review language and programme requirements separately from the examination result.

TUS, the examination used for entry to medical specialty training in Türkiye, produces results that must be matched to the relevant specialty and the applicant’s prior qualification. A score report can contain weighted categories that are similar in appearance but serve different placement routes. Begin with the TUS exam guide to identify the assessed medical subjects, then use the official result to select the category relevant to your training application.
Begin with basic and clinical medical performance
The ÖSYM TUS evaluation guide describes the calculation of net performance from correct answers after subtracting incorrect answers divided by 4. The tests are then converted to standard scores with a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. These values are part of the official standardisation method rather than a candidate’s practice-test mark.
For preparation, examine basic medical and clinical medical subjects separately. A candidate who repeatedly misses anatomy or physiology questions has a different revision problem from someone who struggles with clinical case interpretation. Divide your error log into content recall, application to a clinical situation and reading precision, then focus practice on the specific weakness.
Distinguish weighted specialty score categories
For medicine graduates, ÖSYM’s official weighting table gives the K category coefficients as 0.4 for basic medical sciences and 0.6 for clinical medical sciences. In the T category, those coefficients are 0.6 and 0.4, respectively. As a result, the same candidate’s test performance is interpreted differently depending on the score type. The guide also specifies an A type based on clinical medical sciences for eligible contracted family doctors applying through that route, and a separate T calculation for eligible applicants from other professions.
Read the score-type name from the vacancy or specialty application information before comparing historical results. A category that gives clinical knowledge a stronger weighting may point to a different preparation priority than one emphasising foundational medical science.
Understand the steps after the examination
The official TUS guide explains that placement also involves candidate preferences, programme capacity and applicable foreign-language eligibility conditions. The examination score is thus one element within a defined specialty selection process. Keep the requirements for your intended programme beside the result report.
When studying, use case vignettes to identify whether an error came from selecting a diagnosis, applying clinical management principles or retrieving a basic-science fact. Revisit the related concept and test the new understanding with different cases rather than memorising an isolated answer.
