Inburgeringsexamen Results: Levels and Exam Components
Your Inburgeringsexamen record is organised around the components required for your civic integration route. Check each language or knowledge result in Mijn Inburgering, note the proficiency level used for the language exam, and distinguish a completed component from the final diploma. The applicable integration act determines what belongs in your personal record.

An Inburgeringsexamen result is best read as a record of the examination components you need for your own Dutch civic integration route. Start with your personal requirements rather than looking for a universal total score. The Inburgeringsexamen preparation guide helps with the study tasks; this page explains how to understand the official outcome you receive from DUO.
Check the results of the components in your record
According to DUO’s official exam results guidance, results for the relevant knowledge examinations and language examinations at A2 are communicated by letter and can also be viewed in Mijn Inburgering. Locate the component name and whether you have passed it. Read the language component and any knowledge component as separate requirements rather than adding the outcomes into a made-up total.
For example, if your record shows a completed reading component while a speaking result is still outstanding, those entries describe different parts of the process. Look at the official entry for the component that remains open. Keep its result or correspondence alongside your list of required tasks, and use the official explanation for that particular assessment when planning what to do next.
Read the language proficiency level correctly
DUO’s language exam overview identifies proficiency levels A2, B1 and B2 and the language skills Reading (Lezen), Listening (Luisteren), Writing (Schrijven) and Speaking (Spreken). The B1 and B2 language examinations are also the Dutch as a second language State Examination, known as Nt2. Check which level your component concerns before comparing its result with a different attempt or a different candidate’s pathway.
A level identifies the type of language assessment and proficiency measured in that component. A passed knowledge requirement is also a different kind of result from a language proficiency level. Keep these categories distinct whenever you record your progress.
Why the required components differ between people
The DUO guide to the applicable law explains that civic integration requirements depend on whether you fall under the 2013 or 2021 integration act. Under the 2021 act, the municipal personal integration and participation plan (PIP) identifies your learning route and required components, and Mijn Inburgering provides the personal overview. Read your own requirements first, particularly if you have seen a checklist intended for someone whose obligation began under different rules.
There may be language, knowledge or participation activities relevant to your pathway. A result for one assessment should be checked against that personal overview. Completion of the required route determines the final integration outcome.
Understand the final diploma or certificate
As the DUO diploma page explains, under the 2021 act the integration diploma records whether the language exam was taken at A2, B1 or B2. For the 2013 act, DUO describes the diploma as an A2 level diploma and leaves the achieved language exam level unspecified on the diploma. For the Z-route, the municipality issues a certificate instead of the regular integration diploma. This distinction matters when you are asked to provide your final document. DUO also explains that the digital integration diploma is available through Mijn Inburgering and Mijn diploma’s and can be used for naturalisation. Present the digital document digitally: a printout of the download is invalid.
If an individual component still needs work, choose a task that matches its language skill or knowledge topic. For reading, practise identifying instructions in Dutch notices; for speaking, rehearse answering a situational question. Note the error pattern in your own study record and check the next attempt against the instructions for your route.
