Pakistan MDCAT Marks, Pass Rates and Merit Weight

Pakistan's MDCAT uses a published national question structure and a separate minimum qualifying requirement for medical and dental programmes. An admission merit calculation also considers higher secondary and matriculation results. Read your examination result separately from the institutional selection list and use the latest PMDC policy for the applicable admission route.

A Pakistan MDCAT result plays a specific role in medical or dental admissions. The test reports performance on a national examination, while the selection process considers other academic qualifications. Begin with your original score and the MDCAT exam overview for the tested subjects, then read each admission condition as a separate step.

How the test total is created

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s current examination notice describes 180 multiple-choice questions and zero negative marking. A correct response contributes to your result; an incorrect or unanswered response receives zero credit under the prescribed system. When reviewing practice work, record which questions you answered correctly and which topics caused difficulty.

The same PMDC notice allocates 81 questions to Biology, 45 to Chemistry, 36 to Physics, 9 to English and 9 to Logical Reasoning. These subject totals explain why an overall accuracy measure can conceal the pattern of your strengths. Keep science topics separate from language and reasoning tasks while assessing improvement.

Two programme-specific qualifying conditions

The official PMDC curriculum sets a minimum of 55% for medical college and 50% for dental college admission eligibility. These percentages apply to different programmes, so note the intended qualification beside your reported mark. Clearing a minimum allows the application to be considered under the applicable rules; the separate ranking and available places govern the subsequent decision.

If an older guide shows a different examination pattern, identify the syllabus edition before using its calculations. Your official candidate result and the current PMDC guidance should control how you interpret the score.

Why admission merit uses other records

For public medical and dental colleges, the PMDC official admission FAQs specify an admission merit composition of 50% MDCAT, 40% Intermediate/HSSC and 10% SSC/Matriculation results. This is the public-college merit formula described by PMDC, rather than a universal statement about every admission route. Keep the test score, school marks and the receiving institution’s published merit outcome in separate fields.

A candidate with a similar examination mark could receive a different overall selection outcome because the other academic inputs differ. Compare your result with the specific admission category and the latest institutional policy, rather than a historical merit list from a different cohort.

Use the result to target preparation

For Biology, review the concept behind a missed classification or physiological process. For Chemistry, check the reaction conditions; for Physics, inspect the setup and units in a calculation. Use a fresh question to test each correction.
