Thai TGAT and TPAT scores explained

Thailand's TGAT and TPAT assessments report aptitude outcomes for different purposes. TGAT combines distinct skill components, while TPAT provides field-specific assessment results. The official MyTCAS reporting system also publishes cohort statistics and score distributions. Read the examination component and course requirement together before using a total or a comparison statistic.

Thailand’s TGAT and TPAT results are used in higher-education admissions but describe different skill domains. The TGAT and TPAT examination overview explains which aptitude assessments candidates take. Reading the report starts by identifying the precise subject code, the individual components and the result that the intended university actually uses.

Read the TGAT components before the combined outcome

The official MyTCAS blueprint for TGAT1 assigns 50 points to English speaking-related communication tasks and 50 points to reading, making a 100-point component. The TGAT2 blueprint reports a 100-point Critical and Logical Thinking component. The TGAT3 blueprint divides workplace and future-competency assessment into four sections worth 25 points each, again totalling 100.

Those components measure different abilities. The official MyTCAS results and statistics portal reports the combined TGAT result as the arithmetic mean of TGAT1, TGAT2 and TGAT3, each scored out of 100 points. Keep the individual English communication, reasoning and workforce-competency lines beside that average. A similar reported total can conceal different strengths, especially if a course places particular value on communication or reasoning.

TPAT subjects serve field-specific purposes

The MyTCAS TPAT3 engineering blueprint gives 60 points to aptitude tasks and 40 points to the thought and interest section, for 100 points overall. This is a field-specific structure rather than a universal model for every TPAT assessment. The relevant university course decides which TPAT subject is required and how the score contributes to admission.

Before you compare candidates, confirm that you are reading the same test code. Marks from different TPAT subjects describe different aptitudes. A university’s published programme criteria should tell you which score lines to supply. Keep separate application records for the course’s required assessment, the result reported by MyTCAS and the course’s own weighting.

Distinguish a reported score from cohort statistics

The official MyTCAS statistics portal publishes ranges, score distributions and T-score statistics for the relevant examination cohort. An average can show how a group performed, while a T-score reflects a standardised statistical presentation. These descriptive statistics serve a different purpose from the specific subject result requested by a university.

For preparation, match practice errors to the component. A reasoning mistake might involve missing a condition in an argument. A communication difficulty might arise from identifying a speaker’s intention. You can improve these separately rather than estimating that an increase in one component will lead to a guaranteed admissions result.

Frequently asked questions

How should the TGAT total be read?

The reported TGAT total combines its English communication, reasoning and future workforce competencies; read the component scores alongside it.

Does a TPAT score cover every degree programme?

TPAT subjects assess particular aptitude areas, and universities specify which assessment counts for each programme.

What does a T-score statistic represent?

It describes a standardised statistical comparison; the raw reported subject mark and admissions weighting should be checked separately.
