YKS Scores, Rankings and University Placement in Türkiye
Türkiye's YKS reports examination scores, placement scores and candidate rankings across different admission tracks. An international reader should distinguish practice net counts from official standardised results, and the examination score from the version used in university placement. Programme comparisons work best when the score type, ranking and admission year are considered together.

YKS is Türkiye’s central examination pathway for admission to many undergraduate programmes. Its result document uses several kinds of numbers. Begin with the score type used by the degree programme, then compare your own examination score, placement score and rank. The YKS examination guide covers preparation, while this page explains the meanings of those result fields for students unfamiliar with the Turkish system.
From TYT practice nets to a standardised score
According to the official ÖSYM YKS guide, raw net performance in each test equals the number of correct answers minus the number of incorrect answers divided by 4. ÖSYM then standardises test performance across the relevant candidate group. Your practice net record is useful for diagnosing subject knowledge, while the reported examination score also reflects the official scoring process.
The ÖSYM guide identifies 3 examination sessions: TYT, the foundational proficiency test; AYT, the field proficiency test; and YDT, the foreign-language test. Numerical, verbal and equal-weight admission scores combine the applicable TYT and AYT components; the language track uses the corresponding TYT and YDT components. Read the exact track name before comparing results.
Examination score versus placement score
The YKS guide describes how weighted secondary-school achievement, known as OBP, is added when calculating the university placement score. This creates a meaningful distinction between an examination result and the figure used for programme placement. A student planning an application should record both values under their official labels.
Interpret a success rank within its own track
A success rank describes position among candidates in the relevant score track. Comparing a numerical-track rank with a language-track programme can mislead, just as comparing annual minimum scores across changing examination cohorts can. Use ÖSYM’s official placement statistics to check the reporting year and the type of entry, then consult YÖK Atlas for programme-level enrolled-candidate information.
A sensible comparison begins by choosing the programme and checking its eligible score type. Next, review the previous placement distribution in context. Finally, identify the subjects whose practice accuracy contributes to the score type you need. This process turns a distant university goal into a manageable sequence of reading, problem-solving and review tasks.
