How to Study for YKS: TYT, AYT, and YDT Study Plan

Exam dates from official calendars, together in one place.

YKS is Turkey's university entrance examination, pairing the foundational TYT session with AYT for quantitative, equal-weight, and verbal tracks or YDT for language programs. Strong preparation balances core reading and math skills with field-specific subject study and structured error review. This guide outlines a phased study schedule and practice tracking method.

Choose your YKS sessions by score type

Building an effective YKS study schedule starts with matching your daily study blocks to the score type required by your target university department. According to the 2026 ÖSYM YKS guide, YKS consists of 3 sessions—TYT, AYT, and YDT—and you attend the sessions aligned with your chosen higher education program. Every candidate takes TYT for core Turkish, math, social sciences, and science competencies. Quantitative, equal-weight, and verbal score types combine your TYT performance with AYT subject tests, whereas the language score combines TYT with YDT, and your weighted secondary school achievement score (OBP) is added to calculate your placement score.

Selecting your target track early lets you balance foundational reading and problem-solving speed in TYT with deep subject mastery in AYT or YDT. For official curriculum review, you can study topic summaries, worked question solutions, and review materials on the Ministry of National Education’s MEBİ learning platform alongside your daily practice sets.

Turn practice net scores into topic reviews

Consistent practice testing shows you which subjects need extra study time. Under the 2026 ÖSYM YKS guide, your raw net score in each test equals your correct answers minus wrong answers divided by 4 (correct − wrong ÷ 4), and ÖSYM converts these raw nets into standardized scores weighted for your target track. After every mock exam, classify each missed question by subject and topic so your upcoming study sessions directly target those gaps in Turkish literature, geometry, math, or science. Recording nets by individual subject helps you see steady gains across both TYT and your field session.

Sample 12-week plan

Organize your weekly calendar around both core TYT skills and your target AYT or YDT subjects.

Weeks 1–4

Build your daily TYT routine with 30 Turkish paragraph questions and 25 math problems on numbers and ratios across 5 days per week. Dedicate 60 minutes on 4 days per week to foundational geometry topics: angles and triangles, plus 90 minutes on 3 days per week to TYT science topics in cell biology and linear motion. Language-track students can replace AYT blocks with 45 minutes of daily YDT vocabulary and passage reading.

Weeks 5–8

Shift part of your weekly study hours to field-specific subjects while keeping daily TYT drills active. Complete 40 AYT math questions on functions and polynomials across 4 days per week, paired with 60 minutes on Turkish literary periods or science topics in electrostatics and chemical equilibrium on 3 days per week. Language candidates can complete 35 YDT reading comprehension and cloze questions on 4 days per week. Run 1 full TYT practice exam every weekend and spend 60 minutes reviewing missed questions by topic.

Weeks 9–12

Advance to core AYT and YDT topics while sharpening your TYT pacing. Solve 35 AYT trigonometry and logarithm problems on 4 days per week, and dedicate 75 minutes on 3 days per week to social science topics in history and geography or science organic chemistry and genetics. Schedule 1 TYT mock on Saturday and 1 AYT or YDT mock on Sunday, followed by 90 minutes of targeted topic correction.

The final 4–8 weeks

Increase full-session practice to 2 TYT mocks and 2 AYT or YDT mocks per week under timed conditions. Spend 90 minutes each day re-solving missed questions from your error log across Turkish, math, geometry, science, social sciences, and Turkish literature, and review concise topic summaries for any recurring mistakes.

Frequently asked questions

How do TYT, AYT, and YDT work together for my YKS score?

Every candidate takes TYT to build the foundational score base. Your TYT result combines with AYT for quantitative, equal-weight, and verbal university programs, or with YDT for foreign language programs, and your weighted secondary school achievement score (OBP) is added for placement.

How should I review my YKS practice tests to raise my net scores?

Group every missed question by subject and specific topic right after finishing a mock exam. Schedule dedicated review blocks for those topics before your next practice test so you turn recurring mistakes into steady net gains.

Where can I find official study materials for YKS subjects?

You can use the Ministry of National Education's MEBİ platform for official topic summaries, question solutions, and study materials across YKS subjects, and consult the ÖSYM YKS guide for official session rules.

How can I track my TYT and AYT study routine in ExamLuma?

Set your daily study goals by subject, run focus sessions that add your study time directly to each subject's log, enter your practice test results after every mock exam, and review your weekly statistics.
