Vietnam HSA score: components and total
Hanoi National University's HSA result reports a total and component outcomes. The current examination uses compulsory quantitative and language sections and an optional science or English section. A university assessing an application can consider the official total and the programme's own requirements. Reading the section profile helps identify meaningful areas for future study.

HSA, the competency assessment administered by Vietnam National University Hanoi, reports an overall outcome alongside the parts of the assessment. The HSA exam overview explains the tasks you may encounter. To interpret the result, start by identifying the optional section chosen during registration and read the separate section marks alongside the total. This gives a clearer picture of how the reported performance was achieved.
Understand what makes up the total
The university’s official HSA structure effective in 2026 specifies three sections, each worth 50 points, with a maximum total of 150 points. Mathematics and Data Processing and Literature–Language are compulsory sections. The remaining section is a choice between Science and English. Keeping that structure visible makes it easier to explain why different candidates may have distinct subject profiles despite similar overall results.
The same examination specification explains that candidates taking the Science option choose three of five topic groups. This creates a more specialised third component than a common subject everyone takes. Read the report using the actual optional content and the university programme’s stated requirements, especially when comparing applicants who selected different options.
Total and sectional marks answer different questions
According to the official HSA results guide, the result report provides a total and separate section marks. The total summarises performance across the examination, while a component score helps you understand which area may benefit from further work. For example, difficulty in quantitative work may involve extracting data from a chart, while a language task may require careful interpretation of a passage.
The university’s assessment format document describes scoring based on correctly answered tasks under the official format. A practice-paper tally can point to recurring errors, but keep the official result as it was recorded rather than treating a personally calculated average as another authorised score.
Admissions conditions belong to the receiving university
HSA is one possible form of assessment used in university admissions. Each university and programme may publish eligibility rules, accepted examination combinations or further conditions. A historical programme example helps only when its admission route, subject expectations and year are recorded. Check the current programme’s official notice before drawing a conclusion from an old score distribution.
To use the result for preparation, separate errors in numerical reasoning, text interpretation and the chosen optional domain. Choose a recurring difficulty, practise it with new material and reassess whether the same reasoning mistake appears. This approach gives a meaningful plan even when the overall result seems balanced.
