  • General study
  • Practice tests

Building a steady routine across reading comprehension, quantitative reasoning, and core subject knowledge puts you in control of your MSÜ preparation from the start. By organizing your study blocks around real exam topics and reviewing every practice test methodically, you turn daily effort into measurable score gains.

How the MSÜ written exam works

According to ÖSYM’s 2026 MSÜ guide, MSÜ is a military student candidate selection examination in Turkey where the written examination and the later selection and admission stages are distinct steps. Your academic preparation targets the written examination across the core areas: Turkish, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Science.

In Turkish, you work heavily with word meaning, sentence interpretation, and dense paragraph comprehension. Mathematics covers number properties, algebraic and word problems, and geometry. Social Sciences tests concepts and interpretation across history and geography. Science spans physics topics like force and motion, chemistry topics like matter and properties, and biology topics such as cell structure.

Scoring rules and error review strategy

Per ÖSYM’s 2026 MSÜ guide, MSÜ test scores use your correct responses minus 1/4 of your incorrect responses, followed by standardization and the specified weighting for each score type. Because both precision and speed drive your weighted result, every practice test you take is a diagnostic tool for your next study week.

After finishing a practice test, classify each missed question by topic during your practice test review and write down whether the error came from a knowledge gap, a misread prompt, or a calculation slip. Schedule a targeted follow-up drill on those exact topics in your next study block so you close the gap before your next full test.

Sample 12-week plan

Weeks 1–4: Core foundations and daily reading routines

Start each morning with 30 minutes of Turkish paragraph and vocabulary drills (20–25 questions) to build reading stamina. Dedicate 60 minutes on 5 days of the week to Mathematics numbers, rational expressions, and core geometry angles and triangles. Spend 45 minutes 4 days a week rotating between Science foundations—force and motion in Physics, matter in Chemistry, and cell structure in Biology—and Social Sciences foundations in Turkish history and physical geography. Finish each week with 1 subject-level diagnostic quiz per core area.

Weeks 5–8: Problem-solving speed and mixed topic sets

Keep your 30-minute daily Turkish paragraph block and add grammar review twice a week. Shift your 60-minute Mathematics sessions toward word problems (rate, ratio, percentage, and age problems) and polygons or circles in Geometry. Use 45-minute afternoon blocks 5 days a week to solve mixed question sets in History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Complete 1 timed full-test simulation every weekend and spend 45 minutes logging and re-solving every missed question.

Weeks 9–12: Section pacing and targeted gap closure

Run 2 full timed practice tests per week to refine how you transition between Turkish, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Science. On the remaining 5 days, use 45-minute study blocks to revisit the 3 specific topics that cost you the most points in your recent tests—such as multi-step math problems, map distribution questions in Geography, or stoichiometry in Chemistry. Pair each topic review with a timed set of 25 questions.

The final 4–8 weeks

Increase your practice frequency to 2–3 full timed simulations per week, keeping your test environment consistent each time. Follow every test with a 60-minute error review session where you re-solve missed questions from scratch and review concise summary notes for Social Sciences and Science concepts. Use daily 30-minute blocks for high-yield Turkish paragraphs and Mathematics problem drills to keep your calculation and reading speed sharp.

Frequently asked questions

What does the MSÜ written examination cover?

The written examination evaluates your skills across Turkish, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Science. According to ÖSYM's MSÜ guide, this written test is a distinct stage from the later candidate selection and admission steps, so your study plan stays focused on academic mastery and test pacing.

How does MSÜ scoring handle incorrect answers?

Per ÖSYM's MSÜ guide, your score in each test is calculated from your correct responses minus a quarter of your incorrect responses, which is then standardized and weighted. Reviewing the exact cause of every mistake after practice tests helps you improve accuracy across all subjects.

How should you balance Turkish and Mathematics with Science and Social Sciences?

Pair daily Turkish reading comprehension and Mathematics problem sets with alternating study blocks for History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Rotating conceptual review with timed question sets keeps both your reading speed and your subject recall sharp.
