- Practice tests
End a reading session with something you can explain or improve. State a position on the question you chose, organise the support or condense a passage into its central meaning. Keep the response and your correction together. That makes the next block of preparation easier to start alongside university, work and responsibilities at home.
Give written practice a regular place
The FPSC scheme and syllabus lists English Essay and English Precis and Composition among the compulsory subjects. Give these activities a place in your routine. For an essay, decide on the position you want to develop and inspect the support for each paragraph. For précis practice, identify the central meaning and express it concisely in your own words.
FPSC also identifies General Science and Ability, Current Affairs and Pakistan Affairs within the compulsory subjects. Connect a topic from your checklist with a task: explain a scientific relationship, organise the development of an issue or examine the support for an interpretation. Keep factual notes linked to their source and date so that you can trace what supports the point.
The scheme includes optional subject groups. Keep your selected subjects in the same preparation diary, with separate materials and topic checklists. This routine focuses on reading and written practice; use the task and language required by the paper you are preparing for.
Make a correction change the next response
After a written attempt, inspect whether the opening, supporting points and conclusion answer the same question. Identify a claim that needs stronger support or a paragraph that loses the direction of the argument. Rewrite that part, then use the lesson in a fresh outline. For précis work, compare the original meaning with your condensed version and revise an unclear connection.
Sample 12-week plan
Weeks 1–4: connect reading and writing
Choose 4 weekday blocks of 45 minutes and a 90-minute weekend session. Use Monday for an English essay outline, Tuesday for précis practice, Wednesday for a compulsory-subject topic and Thursday for an optional-subject topic. At the weekend, develop an outline into a written response and inspect how each paragraph supports its position.
Weeks 5–8: strengthen difficult explanations
Begin each block with 10 minutes revisiting an earlier correction. Rotate your chosen subjects through the topic slots and connect reading with a specific written task. Use the longer session to revise a substantial response, checking the relationship between the question, the factual support and your conclusion.
Weeks 9–12: give analysis its own time
Attempt timed work using materials for the paper you are preparing for. Put analysis in the following study block and assign the next task to the difficulty that keeps appearing. Keep a 45-minute reserve slot for sessions displaced by work or classes. Leave the next topic, materials and intended response ready to use.
