GAT Study Plan: Reasoning and Subject Preparation
Exam dates from official calendars, together in one place.
Build your GAT routine around the version you are preparing for: General or Subject. Choose relevant materials, identify the step that caused difficulty and apply the correction in fresh practice. This guide helps you turn reasoning and subject revision into tasks that fit around university, employment and your available study time.

Give your next reasoning session an outcome you can explain. Choose a task, work through it and identify why the corrected approach fits the information. Keep the attempt and the explanation together. That turns a gap between university classes or a protected evening after work into a focused preparation block.
Choose materials for your GAT version
NTS lists verbal, quantitative and analytical reasoning in the GAT General paper distribution. Organise General preparation materials under those headings and choose a specific action for each area.
NTS distinguishes categories within GAT General, with distributions related to educational fields. Use the category relevant to your preparation when organising materials. Within your routine, choose the next task from the difficulty in your own work: interpreting a passage, modelling a relationship or following the implications of stated conditions.
GAT Subject has general and subject sections. NTS lists English verbal and analytical reasoning within its general section. For Subject preparation, organise your chosen subject’s curriculum into concepts to explain and problems to practise, alongside those general-section tasks. Keep the version and chosen subject visible on your checklist.
Make your reasoning visible
For verbal practice, state the meaning of the passage in your own words and identify the wording supporting it. When comparing possible interpretations, explain which detail decides between them. Keep a vocabulary note connected to the sentence where the expression mattered.
For GAT General quantitative practice, identify the quantities and the relationship before selecting a method. Write enough working to locate the step that caused difficulty. After checking the response, explain the corrected step and try another problem involving the same idea.
For analytical practice, write the conditions separately from the deductions you make. Follow the chain from the stated information to your conclusion and inspect where an assumption entered. Keep the correction specific enough to guide another attempt.
Sample 12-week plan
Weeks 1–4: establish a workable routine
Choose 4 weekday sessions of 40 minutes and a 90-minute weekend block. Use Monday for passage interpretation, Tuesday for General quantitative relationships or your chosen Subject topic, Wednesday for analytical conditions and Thursday for the area needing more attention. At the weekend, revisit the most difficult task and apply its correction in fresh practice.
Weeks 5–8: strengthen recurring difficulties
Begin each session with 10 minutes returning to earlier work. Explain the corrected relationship before attempting a fresh task. Rotate difficult areas through the additional weekday slot and use the longer session to inspect how accurately you followed the information.
Weeks 9–12: pair timed practice with analysis
During the final 4 weeks, use the longer block for timed practice from your preparation materials. Put analysis in the following session. Choose the next topic from a recurring difficulty and leave a 40-minute reserve slot around work or university commitments.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose materials for GAT?
Start with the version you are taking. NTS publishes separate distributions for GAT General and GAT Subject. Organise your topic checklist around the relevant version and category or subject.
How should I approach quantitative practice for GAT General?
Label the quantities, explain their relationship and choose a method that follows from the problem. After checking your answer, revisit the step that caused difficulty and apply the correction in fresh practice.
How can I review an analytical task?
Write the stated conditions separately from your deductions. Trace the conclusion back through those conditions and identify the assumption or connection that needs correction.
How can ExamLuma help alongside work?
Choose GAT as your exam and set a daily study-time goal. Time focus sessions, save completed study blocks and use weekly statistics to adjust preparation around university or employment.
