Subjects

  • General study
  • Practice tests

Start with the NAT test type you are preparing for and turn its areas into tasks you can actually attempt. A useful study block ends with an explanation, a checked response and a clear next step. Keep your college materials close to your practice so that revision returns to the concept that needs attention.

Build the plan around your NAT type

NTS publishes NAT test types for different educational backgrounds. Organise your preparation materials under the type you are taking, then create a topic checklist from its pattern. Give a checklist entry a concrete action: explain a relationship, interpret a passage or apply a method to a problem.

The NTS pattern uses English, Analytical, Quantitative and Subject headings. Give each area its own study tasks. In English practice, identify the meaning supported by the passage. In analytical work, write the conditions before following their implications. In quantitative practice, explain what the quantities represent before choosing a method.

For NAT-IE, NTS lists Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the subject section. A pre-engineering study block might connect a physics relationship with a problem, explain the principle behind a chemistry method or justify a step in an algebra solution. Match your own subject tasks to the NAT type you are preparing for.

Use mistakes to choose the next task

After practice, identify whether the difficulty came from the concept, the wording or carrying out the method. Return to your course material and explain the missing connection. Then attempt fresh practice using the corrected approach. Keep the original response so that the change in your reasoning stays visible.

For analytical tasks, keep the stated conditions separate from the conclusions you draw. For quantitative work, label the quantities and inspect whether your answer fits the problem. For English, return to the words supporting your interpretation. These checks give the following session a useful starting point.

Sample 12-week plan

Weeks 1–4: connect the pattern with your materials

Choose 4 weekday blocks of 40 minutes and a 90-minute weekend session. Use Monday for English comprehension, Tuesday for analytical conditions, Wednesday for quantitative methods and Thursday for your type’s subject practice. At the weekend, revisit a difficult concept and attempt a fresh application.

Weeks 5–8: strengthen the explanation

Begin each session with 10 minutes reviewing an earlier correction. Rotate difficult topics through the relevant slots and keep your subject materials beside the practice. Use the longer block to explain why a corrected method fits the question.

Weeks 9–12: connect timed work and analysis

In the final 4 weeks, reserve the longer slot for timed practice from your preparation materials. Give analysis the following study block and choose the next task from a recurring difficulty. Keep a 40-minute reserve slot around college commitments.

NTS publishes NAT test types for different educational backgrounds. Identify your type, organise its preparation materials and turn each area into a named task you can attempt and check.

How can I connect subject revision with practice?

Choose a concept from your relevant subject material, explain the relationship in your own words and apply it to a practice problem. Keep the difficult step beside your correction.

What should I record after reasoning practice?

Write the information you used, the relationship you inferred and the point where the reasoning changed. Try a fresh task that uses the corrected approach.
